Abstract Large-scale power grid observability is still a challenge because of deteriorating infrastructure and the incorporation renewable energy sources. A smart that makes use cutting-edge technology, such as phasor measurement unit (PMU), an excellent option for monitoring bringing networks up to speed with latest information. Latterly, considerable investment required deployment locations has slowed down adoption PMU. Therefore, PMUs are expensive, it necessary deploy them in best possible places on large-scale grids. The most significant share optimal PMU placement problems (OPPP) defined 0–1 knapsack problems. Considering this, development effective optimization technique can handle difficulties emerged appealing topic recent years. In this paper, meta-heuristic algorithm based binary particle swarm (BPSO), accelerated (BAPSO), offered solving OPPP. Since earlier research shown BPSO likely stick local optima, majority evaluated their suggested using small-scale test systems. been searches solution by employing two topologies—one global one local—that analogous BPSO. This work determines position large network reasonable amount time fine-tuning acceleration factor. Additionally, order employ fewer PMUs, integration strategy was put into place radial buses. OPPP solutions provided method within period prior published reliable publications, according computational findings.
